Pop Quiz! What were the worst marketing decisions ever made comic book?
This is my list and I would like to hear what you have to add: – Spider-Man Clone Saga (almost solely responsible for the destruction of Marvel in the 1990s) – Death and Return of Superman (the story of ok, but a large factor in the collector of burnout in the 1990s) – Out of Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner (for example, the hero of the silver age treated badly, alienating many fans of the old days) – the multiple versions of X-Men 1, Spider-Man 1 (cynical attempt to bolster the "status" fans Collectibles portfolio expenses) – Wonder Woman became a pinup Bimbo, replaced by another Amazon – DC 1970 explosion / implosion of values – Marvel in early 1990, an explosion of titles with a strong emphasis on the characters grim'n'gritty Thanks!
I agree that clones, the death of Supes, disorder, and Hal Jordan were horrible. I disagree a little on the many blankets. The xmen spiderman and books were huge sellers crazy, as far as marketing goes, it was a success. That has led to multiple covers for each part was defective. I think biggest problem is the wonderful decision to go direct distribution through the purchase of the heroes of the world. It was a nightmare for retailers, everyone is trying to go exclusive, many distributors have the right, while in bankruptcy, and marvel as the bankruptcy filing in two years that. My favorite was a big mistake alowing Jim Lee and Rob Liefeld to reorganize the perfect line. This lasted. Allow Jack Kirby Marvel has to go, be on top in the biggest mistakes than ever. His world fourth leg would be in Marvel stable now. I agree with the poster about other gimick covers. too. Good question, thanks!
